UK Assessor

The course prepares the air traffic controller for conducting assessments and examinations in accordance with commission regulation (EU)2015/340.

Entrants will be trained and assessed by experienced assessors during the course to determine their suitability as an assessor.

UK Verifier

The course prepares entrants to carry out verification of assessments of trainees engaged in unit training.

All training will be conducted by experienced ITO verifiers and will encompass current training philosophies particularly the application of the Unit Training Plan (UTP).

Entrants will be assessed on verification processes to determine their suitability and competence levels.

Unit / ITO Evaluator

Entrants will be trained to complete assessments of trainees engaged in initial unit training.

The course is conducted by experienced ITO verifiers and will encompass current training philosophies, particularly the application of the Unit Training Plan (UTP).

Entrants will be assessed on all simulated, practical and oral test exercises to determine their suitability and competence levels.

Practical exercises will be carried out using Global ATS airspace documentation, as specific unit procedures will not be simulated or assessed.

OJTI

Controller

Designed for qualified controllers, the course aims to cover all aspects of On the Job Training and includes a pre- course ‘Distance Learning Package’ which entrants are required to complete prior to attending the course.

The training prepares prospective OJTIs to conduct training in accordance with the Unit Training Plan. It also equips future OJTIs to prepare, train, monitor, evaluate and debrief trainees.

The course further trains for STDI duties which form an additional privilege of the endorsement.

The course incorporates theoretical and practical instructions, demonstrations and a verbal examination.

Approach Surveillance (APS)

The Approach Control Surveillance course provides comprehensive theoretical and practical training in complex approach surveillance techniques including:

  • Vectoring
  • Speed control
  • Sequencing
  • Providing Flight Information Service (FIS)
  • Arrival and departure planning
  • Overflights
  • Coordination
  • Abnormal and Emergency (ABES) / Degraded Situations
  • Surveillance Radar Approaches
  • Surveillance degradation

The practical exercises cover a wide range of traffic types through exercises of increasing complexity and density.

Approach Procedural (APP)

The Approach Control Procedural course provides comprehensive theoretical and practical training in complex approach control procedural techniques including:

  • Analysis and application of separations
  • Providing UK Flight Information Service (FIS)
  • Arrival and departure planning
  • Overflights
  • Coordination
  • Abnormal and Emergency (ABES) / Degraded Situations
  • Holding and Expected Approach Times (EATs)

The practical exercises cover a wide range of traffic types through exercises of increasing complexity and density.

A week long Pre-Approach course is available for those who may require additional theoretical
support prior to the course commencement.

A 3 day course in combined Tower and Approach operations is also available following the course
completion.

Aerodrome Control (ADI)

This course enables on successful completion, the award of the UK aerodrome control visual and aerodrome control instrument rating.

The course covers tower training on an enhanced visual simulator, with IFR and VFR aircraft movements and the control of vehicles around a large international airport environment.

Basic Training Course (BTC)

This course has been specifically designed to meet the UK CAA and European requirements for ATCO Basic training. The training course provides a foundation for the theoretical knowledge and basic practical skills required for the career of Air Traffic Control.

This course is mandatory before undertaking any initial ATCO rating training course.
