Global ATS has achieved Main Provider status from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education. Global ATS has developed its existing commercial training offer to meet the requirements of the Air Traffic Controller Apprenticeship Standard.

The Main Provider status achieved in July 2020 was followed up with Global ATS completing its Onboarding Process in August 2020 and now listed as a training provider on the Education and Skills Funding Agency website. Global ATS continue to work internally to prepare for the launch of the scheme early 2021.

The Apprenticeship Scheme and specifically the Air Traffic Controller standard accesses Government funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency for UK ATC Training providing significant cost benefits to the UK Airport market.

Global ATS will be contacting its UK customers over the coming weeks to talk through how this apprenticeship scheme works and can benefit them. Webinar(s) for industry are planned to take place in the final quarter of 2020 .

Jon English, Head of Training, stated “This is a significant achievement for Global ATS and enhances the training and funding routes available to our UK customers. Additional responsibilities as a Main Training Provider include a programme that is completed both during Initial Training and Unit Training. Global ATS will work closely with our customers to support them through the full end to end process.”

Andy Cameron, Academy Director, said “This announcement comes twelve months after our 2019 seminar where we communicated our intention to achieve Main Provider status. I look forward to working closely with our UK customers over the coming weeks and months to ensure they are able to access this exciting scheme.”

As reported at the Global ATS Seminar in September 2019, Global ATS has been involved with the ATCO Apprenticeship from the very start, as a member of the trailblazer right through its development and creation. More recently we have been working hard to support the UK ATC industry by putting in place the significant resource and structure to enable Global ATS to successfully register as a provider of Apprenticeship Training for the ATCO Apprenticeship.

Following industry feedback received during 2019, Global ATS made the decision that, rather than register as Support Training Provider (STP) of Apprenticeships, we would apply to become registered as a Main Training Provider (MTP). Whilst this approach involves significantly more work for Global ATS, it will benefit our customers and better support the UK ATC industry. Significantly, as an MTP, the number of apprentices training at Global ATS will not be capped meaning that every qualifying ATC unit will be able to access government funding (As an STP the number of available apprenticeship programmes at Global ATS in any financial year would have been capped at approximately 25). Additionally, we will support the apprentice and their employer during the induction and assessment phase, throughout the initial training and then onwards to the completion of the apprenticeship journey, ensuring smooth transition through to gateway and End Point Assessment (EPA). This will result in far less administration burden for the employer; Global ATS will deal directly with the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), meet all of the government reporting requirements and will administer all of the requisite progress stages culminating in the booking and coordination of the EPA. Global ATS will also be able to provide advice and guidance on ATCO Apprenticeship matters to all our customers.

Global ATS is keen to stress that this programme remains firmly on track. Currently, we have a team of external consultants supporting our application preparation and, contrary to recent reports, have not suffered any setbacks in this process. Global ATS will soon submit their application to register and expect to be able to communicate successful registration as an Approved Provider of Apprenticeship Training between June and September 2020.

As soon as we have any news regarding our Apprenticeship application, including pricing, start dates and the detail of the programme, we will ensure that this is communicated promptly. Please follow Global ATS on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or LinkedIn to ensure that you receive the latest information and news regarding this exciting development for ATC training.
